Regular Season Round 14: Nevezis - Zalgiris 55-79
Date: December 16, 2018
Leader Zalgiris delivered the thirteenth win on Sunday night. This time they crushed 9th ranked Nevezis (2-12) 79-55 in Kedainiai. The game was mostly controlled by Zalgiris. Nevezis managed to win fourth quarter 19-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great shooting night for Zalgiris especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 53.3 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Nevezis' players. The best player for the winners was American center Brandon Davies (208-91, college: BYU, agency: BeoBasket) who scored 16 points (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Guard Rokas Jokubaitis (192-0) chipped in 11 points and 6 assists. Russian forward Nikita Balashov (207-91, agency: Alti Sport) produced 7 points and 5 rebounds and forward Gabas Maldunas (206-93, college: Dartmouth) added 8 points respectively for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Zalgiris (13-1) have an impressive nine-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position. Nevezis lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with 12 games lost. They share the position with Siauliai. Zalgiris are looking forward to face Juventus (#6) in Utena in the next round where they are favorite. Nevezis will play on the road against Prienu Skycop in Prienai and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
