Very important is a road loss of third ranked Herford (9-4) against sixth ranked Hertener Loewen (9-4) on Friday night. Visiting Herford was crushed by Hertener Loewen in Herten 123-66. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Herford. Hertener Loewen dominated down low during the game scoring 82 of its points in the paint compared to Herford's 34. Hertener Loewen forced 25 Herford turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Herford's players. Naturalized American Ryon Howard (198-84, college: Sacred Heart) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists (perfect from the field making all ten shots !!!). American power forward Dijon Smith (203-89, college: Ft.Hays State) contributed with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) for the winners. Five Hertener Loewen players scored in double figures. Lithuanian forward Vaidotas Volkus (203-85, college: Redlands CC) replied with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds and British forward Elliott Sentance (193-94, college: Lethbridge) added 11 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Herford. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Hertener Loewen moved-up to third place in West, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Herford. Hertener Loewen's next round opponent will be Ibbenbueren (#9) on the road where they are favorite. Herford will play against Dortmund (#10) and hope to win that game.
