Regular Season Round 15: Targu Jiu - Marmatiei 80-76

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Marmatiei (9-5) against fourth ranked Targu Jiu (10-5) on Friday night. Visiting Marmatiei was defeated by Targu Jiu in a tough game in Rovinari 76-80. The hosts were ahead by 2 points but lost the second period ending it with a 5-point deficit before their 27-18 run, which allowed them to win the game. Targu Jiu outrebounded Marmatiei 51-36 including a 38-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Marmatiei's players. Americans were the main players on the court. It was a good game for center Kevin Allen (211, college: Emporia St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 19 rebounds. Forward Shawntez Patterson (201-90, college: Alabama St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Patterson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Point guard Joshua Turner (193-92, college: Calgary) answered with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 10 rebounds and guard Allan Thomas (193-90, college: Georgetown, KY) added 25 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Marmatiei. The victory was the third consecutive win for Targu Jiu. They moved-up to third place. Marmatiei at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. Targu Jiu's next round opponent will be Agronomia Buc. (#8) in Bucuresti which should be theoretically an easy game. Marmatiei will play at home against Miercurea Ciuc (#7) and hope to win that game.
