Regular Season Round 15: Rendsburg - Westerstede 107-59

There was no surprise when 7th ranked Westerstede (7-8) was crushed on the road by fifth ranked Rendsburg (9-6) 107-59 on Saturday. Rendsburg dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Westerstede's 28. They outrebounded Westerstede 54-36 including a 34-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Rendsburg looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Westerstede's players. The best player for the winners was American forward Pierce Cumpstone (203-94, college: Stonehill) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 23 rebounds. Australian swingman Julian Pesava (193-95, college: Wayland Baptist) chipped in 23 points and 4 assists. Four Rendsburg players scored in double figures. Coach Bjarne Homfeldt's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play all 12 players saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Marcello Schroeder (195-87) who recorded 21 points and 7 rebounds and Croatian-Bosnian power forward Sandro Antunovic (207-98) added 7 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Rendsburg moved-up to fourth place in North, which they share with Langenhagen and Stade. Loser Westerstede dropped to the eighth position with eight games lost. Rendsburg will face higher ranked Goetting.ASC (#3) in Goettingen in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Westerstede will play on the road against Aschersleben (#13) and hope to win that game.
