Very important is a home loss of second ranked SparkassenStars (9-6) against tenth ranked Oldenburg (7-8) on Saturday night. Host SparkassenStars were defeated by Oldenburg in Bochum 80-67. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of SparkassenStars. Oldenburg looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a great evening for power forward Marcel Kessen (207-97) who led his team to a victory scoring 18 points and 9 rebounds. Naturalized Bosnian point guard Robert Drijencic (194-96) helped adding 18 points and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was center Florian Wendeler (205-93) with 15 points and 7 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and American guard Montrael Scott (190-93, college: Prairie View A&M) scored 14 points and 7 assists. Four SparkassenStars players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Oldenburg. They moved-up to eighth place in North, which they share with Dresden and Itzehoe. Loser SparkassenStars keep the second position with six games lost. They share it with Muenster and Schwelm. Oldenburg will meet at home higher ranked SG Schwelmer Baskets (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. SparkassenStars will play against Iserlohn and hope to secure a win.
