An exciting game was played in Cluj Napoca. Sf.Gheorghe faced Cluj Napoca. Guests from Sfantu Gheorghe (12-0) smashed host Cluj Napoca (1-11) 96-54. The game without a history. Sf.Gheorghe led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Cluj Napoca's 22. Sf.Gheorghe forced 21 Cluj Napoca turnovers and outrebounded them 36-23 including a 28-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Sf.Gheorghe players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Cluj Napoca's players. American center Kristina Higgins (196-94, college: Baylor) notched a double-double by scoring 23 points and 15 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and Lithuanian swingman Marina Solopova (182-90) supported her with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Four Sf.Gheorghe players scored in double figures. Sf.Gheorghe's coach Zoran Mikes felt very confident using 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 11 points by international power forward Irina Parau (183-0) did not help to save the game for Cluj Napoca. American point guard Rishonda Napier (165-94, college: S.Illinois) added 12 points for the hosts. Sf.Gheorghe's next round opponent will be CSM Targoviste (#4) at home. Cluj Napoca will play against ICIM Arad and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
