Very predictable result in Weissenfels where second ranked EWE Baskets (12-2) defeated 15th ranked Mitteldeutscher BC (3-11) 89-74. EWE Baskets players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. It was an exceptional evening for Austrian-Slovenian center Rasid Mahalbasic (210-90, agency: BeoBasket) who led the winners and scored 19 points and 5 rebounds. American power forward Nathan Boothe (206-94, college: Toledo) accounted for 18 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winning side. Serbian point guard Jovan Novak (188-94, agency: BeoBasket) came up with 18 points and 8 assists and American guard Lee Moore (193-95, college: UTEP) added 13 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Mitteldeutscher BC in the defeat. Five EWE Baskets and four Mitteldeutscher BC players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the ninth consecutive win for EWE Baskets. They maintain second place with 12-2 record having just two points less than leader B.Muenchen. Mitteldeutscher BC at the other side keeps the fifteenth position with 11 games lost. They share it with Jena. EWE Baskets will play against Science City Jena (#15) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Mitteldeutscher BC will play against s Oliver Baskets and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
