Regular Season Round 18: Lietkabelis - Zalgiris 69-73

An interesting game for Zalgiris (16-2) which played road game in Panevezys against 4th ranked Lietkabelis (10-8). First ranked Zalgiris managed to get a 4-point victory 73-69. It looked good early as Lietkabelis took a 8-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Zalgiris took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 4 points. Lietkabelis was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. American point guard Nate Wolters (193-91, college: S.Dakota St., agency: Pensack Sports) scored 18 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the former international Marius Grigonis (198-94) chipped in 14 points during the contest. The best for the losing side was Paulius Valinskas (190-95) with 12 points and 6 assists and Slovenian center Ziga Dimec (210-93) scored 10 points and 9 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Defending champion maintains first position with 16-2 record. Lietkabelis lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with eight games lost. Zalgiris will play against Nevezis (#9) in Kedainiai in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Lietkabelis will play on the road against the league's second-placed Rytas (#2) in Vilnius and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
