Regular Season Round 17: Darussafaka - Banvit 70-73

The most exciting game of round 17 in the U19 League took place in Istanbul. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 3rd placed Darussafaka (13-3) to second ranked Banvit (14-1) 73-70 on Wednesday evening. Banvit dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Darussafaka's 28. They outrebounded Darussafaka 45-32 including 19 on the offensive glass. Banvit looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Banvit made 7 blocks. Power forward Alperen Sengun (205-2) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 21 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and guard Eray Akyuz (187-0) chipped in 12 points and 4 assists. Guard Mert Akay (198-0) responded with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and forward Cagdas Atbas (200-0) scored 17 points and 7 rebounds. Four Darussafaka players scored in double figures. Darussafaka's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Banvit keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Anadolu Efes and Fenerbahce. Darussafaka at the other side keeps the third place with three games lost. Banvit is looking forward to face Gaziantep (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Darussafaka's supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Istanbul to the arena Istanbul BBSK.
