There was no surprise in Paderborn where 13th ranked Uni Baskets (7-12) were defeated by second ranked Hamburg (13-5) 98-89 on Saturday. Uni Baskets were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American Beau Beech (206-94, college: N.Florida) fired 22 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. His fellow American import guard Andrew Barham (198-89, college: Gonzaga) chipped in 25 points and 4 assists. Canadian guard Connor Wood (193-93, college: Carleton) produced 27 points and 5 assists and American guard Demetrius Ward (188-90, college: W.Michigan) added 18 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for lost side. Five Hamburg and four Uni Baskets players scored in double figures. Uni Baskets' coach Uli Naechster tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Hamburg maintains second place with 13-5 record having just two points less than leader Chemnitz. Loser Uni Baskets keep the thirteenth position with 12 games lost. Hamburg will face MLP Academics Heidelberg (#4) at home in the next round. Uni Baskets will play against White Wings (#16) in Hanau and hope to win that game.
