There was a surprise result in Hamburg where twelfth ranked Bergedorf (7-9) defeated 4th placed Rendsburg (10-7) 70-60 on Saturday. Guard Steffen Kiese (190-87) stepped up and scored 19 points and 4 assists for the winners and swingman Florian Bunde (194-86) chipped in 14 points. Australian swingman Julian Pesava (193-95, college: Wayland Baptist) responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 15 rebounds and American forward Pierce Cumpstone (203-94, college: Stonehill) scored 18 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Bergedorf moved-up to ninth place in North, which they share with Cuxhaven and Vechta II. Loser Rendsburg keeps the fourth position with seven games lost. Bergedorf will face Aschersleben (#13) on the road in the next round. Rendsburg will play against Stade (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
