There was no surprise in Crailsheim where 12th ranked HAKRO Merlins II (5-11) was defeated by second ranked Speyer (15-1) 75-59 on Saturday. Speyer made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. British center Kingsley Nwagboso (213-96, college: Francis Marion) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and Spanish point guard Jordi Salto (190-90) chipped in 11 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. American forward Arsenio Arrington (206-96, college: Aquinas Coll.) responded with 12 points and 8 rebounds and Greek forward Antonis Sivorotka (204-85) scored 10 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the eleventh consecutive win for Speyer. They keep a position of South-West leader, which they share with Koblenz. HAKRO Merlins II lost their fifth game in a row. They dropped to the eleventh place with 11 games lost. Speyer will face Kronberg (#13) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. HAKRO Merlins II will play against Giessen Pointers and hope to win that game.
