There was no surprise when 9th ranked Westerstede (7-10) was defeated at home by sixth ranked Langenhagen (10-7) 80-68 on Sunday. Langenhagen made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Langenhagen outrebounded Westerstede 48-35 including 36 on the defensive glass. Center Marcel Schwarz (203-90) stepped up and scored 20 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and point guard Arthur Zaletskiy (183-94) chipped in 10 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Langenhagen players scored in double figures. Langenhagen's coach Benjamin Travnizek allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Marcello Schroeder (195-87) responded with 28 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Jacob Hollatz (191-98) scored 15 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals. Langenhagen moved-up to fourth place in North, which they share with Rendsburg. Westerstede lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the twelfth position with ten games lost. Langenhagen will face higher ranked Goetting.ASC (#3) in Goettingen in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Westerstede will play on the road against ALBA-2 (#15) in Berlin and hope to win that game.
