Regular Season Round 17: Stevnsgade - Vaerlose 71-79

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Stevnsgade. Third ranked Vaerlose faced 4th placed Stevnsgade. Guests from Vaerlose (4-12) defeated host Stevnsgade (0-17) 79-71. It looked good early as Stevnsgade took a 3-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Vaerlose had a 27-14 second period charge getting the lead and Stevnsgade was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 71-79. They outrebounded Stevnsgade 42-30 including 30 on the defensive glass. Stevnsgade was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. American swingman Austin Pope (198-94, college: Chaminade) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points and 8 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Forward Mathias Christensen (202-95) contributed with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Filip Rajovic (198-97) answered with 22 points and 8 rebounds and forward Jonas Allaoua (188-98) added 19 points in the effort for Stevnsgade. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted Vaerlose maintains third place with 4-12 record having seven points less than leader Wolfpack/BMS. Stevnsgade at the other side still closes the standings with 17 games lost. Vaerlose will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Stevnsgade will play again on the road against Vaerlose (#3) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
