Regular Season Round 16: Hatay - Canik Belediye 104-69

Date: January 26, 2019
There was no surprise when 10th ranked Canik Belediye (6-10) was crushed on the road by second ranked Hatay (14-2) 104-69 on Saturday. Hatay outrebounded Canik Belediye 42-23 including a 16-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Kazakhstan-Belarusian forward Katerina Snytsina (188-85) fired 18 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Bosnian-Slovenian power forward Marica Gajic (187-95) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Hatay players scored in double figures. American center Kai James (196-95, college: Florida St.) produced 21 points and 9 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and her fellow American import forward Sequoia Holmes (183-86, college: UNLV) added 8 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Hatay maintains second position with 14-2 record having just two points less than leader Cukurova. Loser Canik Belediye keeps the tenth place with ten games lost. Hatay will face Besiktas (#5) in Istanbul in the next round. Canik Belediye will play at home against Mersin BSB (#6) and hope to win that game.
