Regular Season Round 25: Niko-Basket - Mariupol 95-64

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 5th ranked Mariupol's (9-13) road loss to fourth ranked Niko-Basket (12-6) 64-95 on Sunday. The game without a history. Niko-Basket led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Mariupol's 28. Niko-Basket forced 21 Mariupol turnovers and outrebounded them 44-30 including a 33-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Forward Vadim Zaplotinskiy (200-97) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 12 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners and the former international center Roman Gumeniuk (220-87) chipped in 14 points and 14 rebounds. Five Niko-Basket players scored in double figures. At the losing side guard Ivan Mikhyeyev (190-99) responded with 14 points and 6 rebounds and guard Mikita Bibikov (190-97) scored 9 points and 5 assists. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for Niko-Basket. They maintain fourth place with 12-6 record. Mariupol lost their eleventh game in a row. They keep the fifth position with 13 games lost. Niko-Basket will face Kremen (#9) in Kremenchuk in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Mariupol will play on the road against Zolotoi Vek (#8) in Kirovograd and hope to win that game.
