Very important is a road loss of second ranked Zaporizhye (12-8) against sixth ranked Odessa (7-11) on Thursday night. Visiting Zaporizhye was defeated by Odessa in a tough game in Odessa 88-95. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Zaporizhye. The game without a history. Odessa led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They outrebounded Zaporizhye 44-22 including a 33-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Odessa players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. Zaporizhye was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Latvian Arnolds Helmanis (201-92) nailed 24 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and swingman Olexandr Belikov (201-92) accounted for 16 points and 10 rebounds. American forward Kyndahl Hill (201-94, college: Weber St.) came up with 30 points and 5 rebounds and the other American import guard Malique Trent (189-94, college: Hampton) added 19 points and 4 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) respectively for Zaporizhye in the defeat. Four Zaporizhye players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Odessa maintains sixth place with 7-11 record. Zaporizhye at the other side dropped to the third position with eight games lost. Odessa will play against higher ranked Mykolaiv (#5) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Zaporizhye will play against the league's leader Khimik in Yuzhny and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
