Regular Season Round 17: Karesi Spor - Sigortam.net ITU 93-89

There was no surprise when 8th ranked Sigortam.net ITU (9-8) was defeated on the road by third ranked Karesi Spor (13-4) 93-89 on Saturday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Karesi Spor looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international Umit Sonkol (206-82) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 12 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). American point guard Carlos Medlock (183-87, college: E.Michigan) chipped in a double-double by scoring 21 points, 13 assists and 4 steals. Four Karesi Spor players scored in double figures. Point guard Yunus Akcay (191-89) produced 23 points and 5 assists and Berkay Sinirlioglu (192-94) added 11 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists respectively for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Karesi Spor moved-up to second place, which they share with OGM Orman. Loser Sigortam.net ITU dropped to the seventh position with eight games lost. They share it with Manisa and Petkim. Karesi Spor will meet Yeni Mamak (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Sigortam.net ITU will play against Bandirma Kir. (#14) in Balikesir and hope to secure a win.
