There was a small surprise when twelfth ranked HAKRO Merlins II (6-12) beat 9th ranked Kaiserslautern (7-11) in Crailsheim 72-62 on Saturday. HAKRO Merlins II outrebounded Kaiserslautern 49-29 including a 40-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Quite impressive performance for British guard Liam Carpenter (187-96) who helped to win the game recording 23 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Greek forward Antonis Sivorotka (204-85) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American power forward Aaron Ellis (205-87, college: Wichita St.) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds and guard Ronny Weihmann (186-82, college: Emmanuel, GA) added 13 points in the effort for Kaiserslautern. Four Kaiserslautern players scored in double figures. HAKRO Merlins II moved-up to tenth place in South-West, which they share with Kronberg. Loser Kaiserslautern keeps the ninth position with 11 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
