Regular Season Round 19: Cherkasy - Kyiv Basket 87-96

The game in Cherkasy was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Kyiv Basket (12-8) played at the court of 7th ranked Cherkasy (5-12). Kyiv Basket managed to secure a 9-point victory 96-87 on Thursday. Cherkasy trailed by 13 points at halftime and as many as 20 after three quarters before a 32-21 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 87-96 at the end of the game. Kyiv Basket looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by Cherkasy's players. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Maurice Creek (196-90, college: G.Washington) who led the winners and scored 22 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. Montenegrin Milos Latkovic (196-93) accounted for 14 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists and 6 steals for the winning side. Five Kyiv Basket players scored in double figures. American guard Brandon Young (193-91, college: DePaul) came up with 35 points (!!!) (on 15-of-18 shooting from the field) and the other American import forward Chris Cokley (203-96, college: UAB, agency: Interperformances) added 8 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Cherkasy in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Newly promoted Kyiv Basket maintains fourth place with 12-8 record. Defending champion Cherkasy keeps the seventh position with 12 games lost. Kyiv Basket will meet at home league's leader Khimik in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Cherkasy will play against Odessa (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
