Regular Season Round 28: Niko-Basket - SumDU 79-71

No shocking result in a game in Mykolaiv where fourth ranked Niko-Basket (14-8) defeated 6th ranked SumDU (8-19) 79-71 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But SumDU won third quarter 25-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Niko-Basket won last quarter 25-19. They made 25-of-31 free shots (80.6 percent) during the game, while SumDU only scored eight points from the stripe. They outrebounded SumDU 55-22 including a 20-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Vadim Zaplotinskiy (200-97) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international center Roman Gumeniuk (220-87) who added 11 points and 13 rebounds during the contest. Niko-Basket's coach Valentin Berestnev used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side point guard Igor Starodub (187-97) responded with 17 points and point guard Georgiy Altuhov (180-96) scored 12 points and 7 assists. Four SumDU players scored in double figures. Niko-Basket moved-up to third place. SumDU lost seventh consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh position with 19 games lost. Niko-Basket will again meet at home SumDU (#7) in the next round. SumDU will have a break next round.
