There was a surprise result when seventeenth ranked Crailsheim Merlins (4-16) beat at home higher ranked BBC Bayreuth (9-10) 97-90 on Wednesday. Crailsheim Merlins looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. American power forward Joe Lawson (201-92, college: Indianapolis) stepped up and scored 27 points for the winners and Australian swingman Ben Madgen (193-85, college: Augusta) chipped in 10 points and 12 rebounds. Lawson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. The best for the losing side was Canadian guard Kassius Robertson (191-94, college: Missouri) with 20 points and 5 rebounds and American forward DeMon Brooks (202-92, college: Davidson) scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Crailsheim Merlins moved-up to sixteenth place, which they share with MBC. BBC Bayreuth lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with ten games lost. Crailsheim Merlins will face Mitteldeutscher BC (#16) in Weissenfels in the next round.
