Rather expected game when 9th ranked Kozachka-KPU (3-21) was defeated on the road by seventh ranked SBK Lviv (7-14) 67-60 on Friday. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. SBK Lviv dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Kozachka-KPU's 24. They outrebounded Kozachka-KPU 53-25 including a 23-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when SBK Lviv made 8 blocks. The former international swingman Krystyna Matsko (182-91) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 16 rebounds for the winners and center Mariia Kovtun (198-92, college: Texas Woman's) chipped in 17 points and 10 rebounds. At the losing side guard Olga Chernenko (176-86) responded with 16 points and 6 rebounds and forward Katerina Tikhonova (176-97) scored 15 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Newly promoted SBK Lviv maintains seventh place with 7-14 record. Kozachka-KPU lost their seventh game in a row. Kozachka-KPU at the other side, also newcomer in the league, stay dead last with 21 lost games. SBK Lviv will face higher ranked Chaika (#5) in Berdiansk in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Kozachka-KPU will play at home against Frankivsk (#3) and hope to win that game.
