Regular Season Round 20: Kyiv Basket - Khimik 60-65
Date: February 16, 2019
The game between Top Four teams took place in Kyiv. 4th ranked host Kyiv Basket (13-9) lost to first ranked Khimik (18-6) 65-60. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Kyiv Basket. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 22-17. But Kyiv Basket won second period 16-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Khimik won last quarter 17-13. The winners were led by U.S. Virgin Islands guard Deon Edwin (190-92, college: Kent St., agency: Interperformances) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and American forward Christian Jones (201-93, college: UNLV, agency: BeoBasket) supported him with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Even a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds by the former international power forward Maksim Sandul (207-91, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) did not help to save the game for Kyiv Basket. Montenegrin Milos Latkovic (196-93) added 9 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the hosts. Kyiv Basket's coach Evgeni Murzin rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Khimik have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 18-6 record. Newly promoted Kyiv Basket keeps the fourth place with nine games lost. Khimik will play against bottom-ranked Politekhnik (#8) in Kharkiv in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Kyiv Basket will play on the road against Mykolaiv (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
