Regular Season Round 23: Trier - Nuernberg 70-86

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 8th ranked Gladiators (11-12) lost to ninth ranked Nuernberg (11-10) in Trier 70-86 on Saturday. Nuernberg outrebounded Gladiators 37-22 including a 28-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Gladiators were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Hungarian point guard Marcell Pongo (194-97, agency: Octagon Europe) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. American guard Jackson Kent (201-93, college: JMU) contributed with 16 points for the winners. Four Nuernberg players scored in double figures. American guard Kelvin Lewis (195-88, college: Houston) answered with 20 points and 7 rebounds and Jamaican-Canadian forward Jermaine Bucknor (201-83, college: Richmond) added 12 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Gladiators. Gladiators' coach tested ten players seeing no chance for a win. Nuernberg have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to eighth place. Gladiators lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth position with 12 games lost. Nuernberg will face White Wings (#15) in Hanau in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gladiators will play on the road against Schalke (#14) and hope to win that game.
