Very expected game when 8th ranked Kyiv Basket 2 (8-19) was defeated at home by third ranked Khimik-2 (17-7) 105-92 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Khimik-2. Kyiv Basket 2 was better in third quarter 24-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 29-of-38 free shots (76.3 percent) during the game. Khimik-2 forced 21 Kyiv Basket 2 turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Kyiv Basket 2 was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. Forward Artem Kovalov (202-97, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) had a double-double by scoring 25 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) to lead the charge for the winners and Denys Klevzunyk (192-0) chipped in 26 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Five Khimik-2 players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was swingman Yevgen Bolotsenko (195-95) with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and point guard Oleksandr Sydoruk (187-1) scored 27 points and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Khimik-2 maintains third position with 17-7 record having fourteen points less than leader Ternopil-TNEU. Kyiv Basket 2 lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eighth place with 19 games lost. Khimik-2 will have a break next round. Kyiv Basket 2 will play again at home against Khimik-2 (#3) and hope to win that game.
