Very expected game when 12th ranked Mannheim (6-14) was rolled over on the road by first ranked Speyer (18-1) 107-77 on Saturday. Speyer outrebounded Mannheim 40-27 including 28 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by Mannheim's players. The best player for the winners was British center Kingsley Nwagboso (213-96, college: Francis Marion) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. French forward Alex Baptiste (201, college: Wooster) chipped in 22 points and 8 rebounds. Five Speyer players scored in double figures. Speyer's coach Carl Mbassa felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was David Scheffels (200-96) who recorded 19 points and 5 rebounds and Polish Slawomir Klocek (192-84) added 11 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists respectively. The victory was the fourteenth consecutive win for Speyer. They maintain first place in South-West with 18-1 record. Newly promoted Mannheim dropped to the thirteenth position with 14 games lost. Speyer will face Karlsruhe SC (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Mannheim will play against Giessen Pointers (#7) and hope to win that game.
