Very important is a road loss of second ranked Athletic Sofia (2-2) against fifth ranked UE Varna (1-3) on Sunday night. Visiting Athletic Sofia was defeated by UE Varna in a tough game in Varna 84-88. Swingman Martin Kotsev (195-98, agency: Interperformances) notched a double-double by scoring 17 points, 14 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the effort and power forward Nikolay Georgiev (205-95) supported him with 28 points and 7 rebounds. Even a double-double of 25 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists by the former international forward Stanislav Slaveykov (198-86) did not help to save the game for Athletic Sofia. Guard Todor Zahariev (190-92) added 17 points and 10 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. UE Varna maintains fifth position with 1-3 record. Athletic Sofia at the other side keeps the second place with two games lost. They share the position with Chavdar and Chernomorets. UE Varna will play against higher ranked Chavdar (#4) in Troyan in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Athletic Sofia will have a break next round.
