Liga Nationala top team - Sf.Gheorghe (17-1) had no problems winning another game on Wednesday. This time they crushed seventh ranked Cluj Napoca (3-15) in Sfantu Gheorghe 104-54. The game without a history. Sf.Gheorghe led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Cluj Napoca's 36. Sf.Gheorghe forced 19 Cluj Napoca turnovers and outrebounded them 51-17 including a 20-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Sf.Gheorghe looked well-organized offensively handing out 33 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Cluj Napoca's players. Lithuanian swingman Marina Solopova (182-90) nailed 18 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side and American center Kristina Higgins (196-94, college: Baylor) accounted for 11 points and 11 rebounds. Five Sf.Gheorghe players scored in double figures. Sf.Gheorghe's coach Zoran Mikes felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Tierra Henderson (178-87, college: UCLA, agency: Gamble Sports Management) came up with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and Bosnian center Aleksandra Begenisic (194-89) added 10 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Cluj Napoca in the defeat. Defending champion maintains first place with 17-1 record. Cluj Napoca lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with 15 games lost. Sf.Gheorghe will meet CSM Targoviste (#4) on the road in the next round. Cluj Napoca will play against ICIM Arad and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
