Second Stage Round 5: Targu Jiu - Miercurea Ciuc 78-87

There was a minor upset in Rovinari where 4th placed Targu Jiu (12-11) was defeated by sixth ranked Miercurea Ciuc (10-13) 87-78 on Saturday. Targu Jiu was trailing by 6 points at halftime but managed to get 4-point lead after three quarters before a 33-20 charge of Miercurea Ciuc, which allowed them to win the game. The best player for the winners was swingman Djordje Simeunovic (201-96) who had a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 10 rebounds and 4 assists. American power forward Andre Pierce (207, college: Lee JC) chipped in a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds. American forward Jordan Martin (203-93, college: Missouri St.) produced a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds and forward Adrian Rosu (198-91) added 23 points respectively for the hosts. Miercurea Ciuc moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Rapid. Targu Jiu lost sixth consecutive game. Targu Jiu at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the fourth position with 11 games lost. Miercurea Ciuc will face league's leader Targu Mures on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Targu Jiu will play against Focsani and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
