The most exciting game of round 17 in the NBBL took place in Essen. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of second-ranked Ruhr (9-4) to fifth ranked Phoenix Juniors (8-5) 114-113 on Sunday evening. Phoenix Juniors forced 20 Ruhr turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. The best player for the winners was point guard Gabriel Jung (183-1) who scored 29 points and 9 assists. Point guard Tobias Wegmann (185-0) chipped in 22 points and 8 assists. Erik Neusel (204-0) produced a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds and point guard Luca Gerke (186-0) added 22 points and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. Four Phoenix Juniors and five Ruhr players scored in double figures. Ruhr's coach Thorsten Morzuch rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Phoenix Juniors have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place in Group 2, which they share with ROTH Energie. Ruhr at the other side dropped to the third position with four games lost. Phoenix Juniors will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Ruhr will play on the road against the league's second-placed TSV Bayer 04 in Leverkusen and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
