There was no surprise in Quakenbrueck where 10th ranked Artland Dragons (11-14) were defeated by fourth ranked MLP Academics Heidelberg (16-9) 83-71. MLP Academics Heidelberg dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Artland Dragons' 38. The game was dominated by American players. Guard Jaleen Smith (193-94, college: New Hampshire) nailed 20 points and 4 assists for the winning side and swingman Shyron Ely (193-87, college: Evansville, agency: Slash Sports) accounted for 17 points. Four MLP Academics Heidelberg players scored in double figures. Forward Demetris Morant (206-92, college: FGCU) came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and guard Pierre Bland (188-92, college: PFW) added 17 points and 4 assists respectively for Artland Dragons in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. MLP Academics Heidelberg moved-up to third place, which they share with Rostock. Newly promoted Artland Dragons dropped to the eleventh position with 14 games lost. MLP Academics Heidelberg's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Baunach (#16) on the road which should be an easy win for them. Artland Dragons will play against the league's second-placed Hamburg (#2) and hope to win that game.
