Regular Season Round 21: Zaporizhye - Cherkasy 96-91
Date: March 1, 2019
There was no surprise in Zaporozhye where 8th ranked Cherkasy (6-14) was defeated by third ranked Zaporizhye (16-9) 96-91 on Friday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Cherkasy trailed by 16 points after 3 quarters before a 26-15 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 91-96 at the end of the game. American guard Malique Trent (189-94, college: Hampton) stepped up and scored 21 points, 7 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals for the winners and his fellow American import guard Mike Holton-Jr (185-90, college: St.Michael's) chipped in 23 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Zaporizhye players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American guard Brandon Young (193-91, college: DePaul) with 27 points and 5 assists and forward Dmytro Lypovtsev (203-86) scored 9 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Cherkasy's coach Maksym Mikhelson rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Zaporizhye maintains third place with 16-9 record having just two points less than leader Khimik. Defending champion Cherkasy stay at the bottom position with 14 games lost. Zaporizhye will meet at home Kyiv Basket (#4) in the next round.
