Second Stage Round 5: Miercurea Ciuc - Focsani 89-81

There was a minor upset when 3rd placed Focsani (13-10) was defeated on the road by sixth ranked Miercurea Ciuc (10-13) 89-81 on Friday. Focsani trailed by 26 points at halftime and as many as 27 after three quarters before a 33-14 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 81-89 at the end of the game. Miercurea Ciuc outrebounded Focsani 38-22 including 28 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American power forward Andre Pierce (207, college: Lee JC) who had a double-double by scoring 31 points and 20 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Swingman Djordje Simeunovic (201-96) chipped in 24 points and 6 rebounds. American forward Kyle Kilgore (201, college: Dakota St.) produced 36 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and point guard Alin Olaru (183-95) added 17 points respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Miercurea Ciuc moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Rapid. Focsani at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the third position with ten games lost. Miercurea Ciuc will face league's leader Targu Mures on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Focsani will play against Targu Jiu in Rovinari and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
