Regionalliga top team - Speyer (20-1) managed to deliver another win on Saturday. This time they beat seventh ranked Giessen Pointers (9-12) 91-79. Speyer looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Guard Dmitrj Kreis (187-88) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Dominican-Spanish power forward Michel Acosta (201-92) contributed with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Lithuanian Martynas Airosius (192-93) answered with 18 points and 6 assists and American swingman Christopher Miller (192-93, college: Salem Intern.) added 16 points in the effort for Giessen Pointers. Five Speyer and four Giessen Pointers players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the sixteenth consecutive win for Speyer. They maintain first place in South-West with 20-1 record. Giessen Pointers lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the sixth position with 12 games lost. Speyer will face Kaiserslautern (#10) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Giessen Pointers will play against Karlsruhe SC (#3) and hope to win that game.
