Second Stage Round 5: NSA - Septemvri 97 65-101

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Sofia: Septemvri 97 (#5) and NSA (#8). NSA was crushed at home by 36 points 65-101 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Septemvri 97 forced 39 NSA turnovers. Strangely NSA outrebounded Septemvri 97 42-30 including a 28-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 63.2 percentage. Septemvri 97 looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by NSA's players. Guard Konstantina Kakogiani (175-1) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points and 4 assists. Guard Ivona Ilieva (180-98) contributed with 14 points, 5 assists and 5 steals for the winners. Septemvri 97's coach felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international guard Zornitsa Naydenova (170-89) answered with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists and guard Mihaela Kashanova (173-0) added 17 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for NSA. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Septemvri 97 maintains fifth place in Places 5-8 with 9-7 record. NSA lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost. Septemvri 97 are looking forward to face Academic PL (#7) in Plovdiv in the next round. NSA's supporters also look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Sofia to the arena Champion 2006.
