Second Stage Round 13: Gargzdu - Jonava 100-98

Eleventh-ranked Jonava (17-22) made lots of trouble for ninth ranked Gargzdu (21-17) in Gargzdai on Friday. Gargzdu managed to secure only two-point victory 100-98. However their fans expected easier game. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Jonava. Gargzdu had a 30-18 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Jonava was plagued by 33 personal fouls down the stretch. Guard Ernestas Jonkus (186-99) fired 26 points for the winners. The former international Simonas Serapinas (197-82) chipped in 17 points and 6 assists. Center Martynas Pacevicius (205-97) produced 20 points and 7 rebounds and forward Justas Furmanavicius (198-94, college: Mississippi) added 16 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted Gargzdu maintains ninth place with 21-17 record. Loser Jonava keeps the eleventh position with 22 games lost. Gargzdu will face bottom-ranked KTU (#15) in Kaunas in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Jonava will play at home against Taurages (#13) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
