Second Stage Round 3: Ilirija - Zlatorog 86-89

A very interesting game took place in Ljubljana. It ended with only three-point home defeat of Ilirija (1-8) to Zlatorog (5-4) 89-86 on Saturday evening. The guests were already 16 points ahead at halftime and as many as 17 after three quarters before a 40-26 last quarter charge of Ilirija cut the lead to 89-86 at the end of the game. 25 personal fouls committed by Ilirija helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for Australian-South Sudanese center Matur Maker (208-98) who led his team to a victory with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Point guard Nejc Baric (183-97) contributed with 18 points for the winners. Zlatorog's coach Chris Thomas used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American swingman LD Williams (193-88, college: Wake Forest) answered with 24 points and 9 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and forward David Gabrovsek (201-94, college: Missouri Baptist) added 30 points in the effort for Ilirija. Zlatorog's next round opponent will be Sencur Gor. (#8) in Kranj. Ilirija will play at home against Sentjur and hope to win that game.
