Second Stage Round 10: Chernomorets - Athletic Sofia 82-70

The game between Top Four teams took place in Burgas. Second ranked host Chernomorets (4-3) defeated one of their biggest challengers Athletic Sofia (3-4) 82-70. They outrebounded Athletic Sofia 40-28 including 18 on the offensive glass. Chernomorets looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The former international Hristo Nikolov (202-85, agency: 011 Sports) scored 37 points (!!!) and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Paulin Jardim (196-96) chipped in 10 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Four Chernomorets players scored in double figures. At the losing side center Krastan Krastanov (206-99) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Todor Zahariev (190-92) scored 21 points and 6 rebounds. Athletic Sofia's coach Nikolay Hadjiev rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Chernomorets maintains second position with 4-3 record having just three points less than leader Shumen. Athletic Sofia at the other side keeps the third place with four games lost. They share the position with Chavdar. Chernomorets are looking forward to face Chavdar (#4) in Troyan in the next round. Athletic Sofia will play at home against UE Varna and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
