The game in Sofia supposed to be also quite interesting. Third ranked Balkan (13-6) played at the court of 8th ranked Academic Sofia (4-15). Balkan smashed Academic Sofia 101-71 on Friday. Balkan dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Academic Sofia's 34. They outrebounded Academic Sofia 40-22 including 29 on the defensive glass. Balkan looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Serbian-French power forward Alexandre Gavrilovic (208-91, college: Towson, agency: Duran International) nailed a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winning side and American forward Mikael Hopkins (206-93, college: Georgetown) accounted for 19 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Guard Kostadin Lazarov (193-0) came up with 13 points and 4 assists and power forward Andrey Ivanov (206-96) added 14 points respectively for Academic Sofia in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Balkan. They maintain third place with 13-6 record having four points less than leader Levski Lukoil. Academic Sofia lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the eighth position with 15 games lost. Balkan will meet league's leader Levski Lukoil in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Academic Sofia will play against the league's second-placed Beroe (#2) and hope to secure a win.
