No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked Giessen Pointers (11-13) smashed at home 14th ranked Mainz (4-19) 103-68 on Saturday. Giessen Pointers shot 63.8 percent from the field. Giessen Pointers outrebounded Mainz 44-26 including a 38-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. Giessen Pointers looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The best player for the winners was point guard Lucas Mayer (183-99) who scored 19 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. Center Julian Reinwald (209) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. Five Giessen Pointers players scored in double figures. Giessen Pointers' coach Daniel Doerr felt very confident that he used 10 players saving starting five for next games. Swingman Felix Oppenberg (190-97) produced 14 points and 8 rebounds and American point guard Kewan Beebe (183-93, college: Geneseo St.) added 13 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Newly promoted Giessen Pointers maintains sixth position in South-West with 11-13 record. Mainz lost ninth consecutive game. They keep the fourteenth place with 19 games lost. Giessen Pointers will face Fellbach (#12) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Mainz will play against Kaiserslautern and hope to win that game.
