Sixth-ranked Pitesti (9-14) used its home court advantage to challenge first ranked Sibiu (18-5) on Wednesday. The visitors from Sibiu managed to secure only four-point victory 78-74. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Pitesti won third quarter 15-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Pitesti used huge pressure winning it 17-13 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 8-12. They outrebounded Pitesti 54-33 including a 20-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Pitesti was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American guard Kevin Hardy (188-93, college: McNeese St., agency: Octagon Europe) who led his team to a victory with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. American-German forward Isaiah Philmore (203-89, college: Xavier) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Four Sibiu players scored in double figures. Sibiu's coach Dan Fleseriu used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Montenegrin center Maksim Sturanovic (210-88, agency: 011 Sports) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds and Serbian guard Mladen Jeremic (196-88, agency: 011 Sports) added 27 points in the effort for Pitesti. Sibiu maintains first place with 18-5 record which they share with defeated Pitesti. Pitesti at the other side still keeps top position with 14 games lost. Sibiu will face league's second-placed Cluj Napoca at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Pitesti will play against Oradea and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
