There was an upset when higher ranked Kaiserslautern (9-16) lost on the road to fourteenth ranked Mainz (5-19) 97-80 on Saturday. Mainz outrebounded Kaiserslautern 36-24 including 26 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a good game for American point guard Kewan Beebe (183-93, college: Geneseo St.) who led his team to a victory with 32 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Tobias Oppenberg (182-2) contributed with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winners. Mainz's coach Christian Zander used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Guard Ronny Weihmann (186-82, college: Emmanuel, GA) answered with 17 points and 5 rebounds and guard Kevin Croom added 17 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Kaiserslautern. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Mainz maintains fourteenth place in South-West with 5-19 record. Loser Kaiserslautern dropped to the eleventh position with 16 games lost. Mainz will face higher ranked Karlsruhe SC (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
