Second Stage Round 5: KDPU - Ternopil-TNEU 72-103

The game between Top Four teams took place in Kryvyi Rih. 4th placed host KDPU (8-9) was smashed by third ranked Ternopil-TNEU (13-4) 103-72. It looked good early as KDPU took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Ternopil-TNEU had a 24-17 second period charge getting the lead and KDPU was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 72-103. Ternopil-TNEU dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to KDPU's 36. They outrebounded KDPU 46-28 including a 32-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Ternopil-TNEU players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. Forward Maxim Nikitin (201-89) nailed 18 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and center Yevgen Vornik (208-86) accounted for 20 points. Four Ternopil-TNEU players scored in double figures. Ternopil-TNEU's coach Dmitry Zabirchenko felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Power forward Artem Vodolaztcky (197-92) came up with 21 points and Yevgeniy Sergeichik (-94) added 10 points and 4 assists respectively for KDPU in the defeat. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Ternopil-TNEU. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Rivne. KDPU at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the fourth position with nine games lost. Ternopil-TNEU will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. KDPU will play again at home against Ternopil-TNEU (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
