Regular Season Round 31: Rytas - Nevezis 68-70

The most exciting game of round 31 in the LKL took place in Vilnius. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of much higher ranked Rytas (22-8) to tenth ranked Nevezis (5-26) 70-68 on Wednesday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the home team. Rytas was trailing by 6 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 21-17 charge of Nevezis, which allowed them to win the game. It was a great evening for forward Gabas Maldunas (206-93, college: Dartmouth) who led his team to a victory scoring 18 points and 9 rebounds. Swingman Gintautas Matulis (196-86, agency: Players Group) helped adding 8 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. At the losing side international Arnas Butkevicius (197-92) responded with 11 points and 8 rebounds and American DJ Seeley (193-89, college: CS Fullerton) scored 15 points. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Nevezis maintains tenth place with 5-26 record. Rytas at the other side dropped to the third position with eight games lost. Nevezis are looking forward to face higher ranked Juventus (#6) in Utena in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Rytas will play at home against P.Zvaigzdes and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
