Herford used a home court advantage and crushed the opponent from Recklinghausen 102-79 on Saturday night. Herford dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Recklinghausen's 38. They outrebounded Recklinghausen 45-30 including 34 on the defensive glass. Quite impressive performance for American forward Derylton Hill (196-94, college: Ark.-Monticello) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 25 points and 14 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). Lithuanian forward Vaidotas Volkus (203-85, college: Redlands CC) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Five Herford players scored in double figures. American guard Antoine Myers (191-90, college: Troy) answered with 27 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) and Pakistani Salman Manzur (205-96) added 18 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Recklinghausen. Recklinghausen's coach Johannes Huelsmann gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Herford will face ETB Wohnbau (#9) in Essen in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Recklinghausen will play on the road against Hertener Loewen and hope to win that game.
