Regular Season Round 4: Bayer Giants - Rostock 89-85
Date: October 9, 2019
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Leverkusen where 9th ranked Rostock (1-2) was defeated by tenth ranked Bayer Giants (2-2) 89-85 on Wednesday. Bayer Giants made 25-of-33 free shots (75.8 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Rostock was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Nick Hornsby (201-95, college: Sacramento St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points, 11 assists and 4 steals and Serbian guard Nino Celebic (191-91) who added 14 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. At the losing side American forward Malik Pope (208-96, college: San Diego St.) responded with 14 points and 9 rebounds and center Kalidou Diouf (206-94, college: CBU) scored 12 points and 6 rebounds. Five Bayer Giants and four Rostock players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Bayer Giants moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Trier and Karlsruhe PS. Loser Rostock dropped to the tenth position with two games lost. Bayer Giants will face Ehingen/Urspringschule (#15) in Allmendingen in the next round and are hoping to win another game.
