An interesting game was played in Sofia where Balkan (#4) beat host Academic (#2) 102-88 on Saturday evening. Balkan looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American guard Daishon Knight (185-91, college: Illinois St., agency: SDJ Sports) scored 25 points and 8 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Montenegrin center Mihailo Sekulovic (206-91) chipped in 20 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals during the contest. Nikolay Grozev (200-94) responded with 29 points and 9 rebounds and power forward Andrey Ivanov (206-96) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Balkan will meet at home Cherno More (#8) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Academic will play against Rilski (#3) in Samokov and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
