Regular Season Round 5: Brasov - Alexandria 86-55

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Alexandria (1-2) against fourth ranked Brasov (2-1) on Thursday night. Visiting Alexandria was crushed by Brasov in Brasov 86-55. It was a key game for the second position in Nationala. It looked good early as Alexandria took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Brasov had a 17-14 second period charge getting the lead and Alexandria was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 55-86. Brasov dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Alexandria's 28. They outrebounded Alexandria 38-27 including 26 on the defensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Brasov especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.9 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Serbian Biljana Pesovic (180-83) orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points and 8 rebounds. Serbian-Bosnian center Nikolina Zubac (188-98) contributed with 12 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Five Brasov players scored in double figures. Point guard Mihaela Mihai (169-90) answered with 20 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals and Georgiana Voicu added 8 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Alexandria. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Brasov moved-up to second place in Nationala. Alexandria at the other side dropped to the sixth position with two games lost. Brasov will play against Agronomia (#5) in Bucurest in the next round. Alexandria will play at home against the league's leader Sf.Gheorghe to get more than just one victory in their record.
