Regular Season Round 5: Bamberg - Schwabing 75-71

Everything went according to plan when seventh ranked Bamberg (3-2) beat at home 10th ranked Schwabing (1-3) 75-71 on Saturday. Bamberg made 22-of-29 free shots (75.9 percent) during the game. They also forced 23 Schwabing turnovers. Strangely Schwabing outrebounded Bamberg 40-26 including a 27-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Schwabing was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. Guard Michael Lachmann (192-89) stepped up and scored 19 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and guard Steffen Walde (190-92) chipped in 16 points. Four Bamberg players scored in double figures. Tristan Da-Silva (202-1) responded with 21 points and 7 rebounds and American power forward Nick Freer (198-85, college: GVSU) scored 21 points and 6 rebounds. Schwabing's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Bamberg have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to sixth place in South-East, which they share with FC Bayern III. Loser Schwabing dropped to the eleventh position with three games lost. Bamberg will face league's leader Topstar in Diedorf in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Schwabing will play at home against TSV Troester (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
